I took him as my husband when I was a little girl, as my mother would have loved. That's how it was done back then. I loved him. After two months. He's beating me, Mom. Move on. I was doing it. He's cheating on me, Mom. Get over it, she was telling me. I was doing it too. Then I had a baby. I still loved him. He is drinking until he faints, I was crying out loud. Get over it, I was told. I swallowed, struggled, and got over it. One day, I took my baby and left. He threatened my mother with the butcher. Where are you, he's killing me, she screamed on the phone. Get over it, I told her, and I lit myself a cigarette.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
